Themba Lonzi
Cultural Diversity Specialist Social & Cultural Activist
Themba is a musician, actor, community organizer, activist, and reconciliation practitioner based in Gugulethu, Cape Town. Growing up during the height of apartheid, Themba came of age amidst protest, political turmoil, and limited opportunities. He recalls his youth as a time marked by anger and survival, shaped by a system that left little room for peace.
The turning point came through the arts—where music and performance offered a powerful outlet for his rage and, eventually, a pathway to healing and compassion. Today, Themba uses his lived experience and creative gifts to foster dialogue, healing, and social change.
Working alongside Wilhelm Verwoerd—his counterpart from the other side of South Africa’s racial divide—Themba brings a powerful voice to reconciliation work, helping bridge the deep divides between Black and white South Africans through storytelling, truth-telling, and transformative workshops.
